Adoption Process

Looking for your new best friend? Homes for Paws is an all breed dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs on death row. When you adopt a dog you’re not only saving one life, but two: the dog you’re adopting and the dog that will be rescued in its place in the shelter! The dogs have also been in a home environment while in our care so we know their personalities and needs quite well!

What’s included in the adoption fee?

The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccines, microchip, deworming and spay/neuter.*

*NOTE: if the adopted dog is too young to be spayed/neutered an appointment will be scheduled through one of our partner clinics at the time of adoption.

  • All adopters also receive a certificate for a post adoption vet visit at any VCA vet.

What are the steps of your adoption process?

1. Application

Fill out an adoption application. Please answer as truthfully and thoroughly as possible.

Your application will be carefully screened by our team.

2. Meet & Greet

If we believe you to be a good fit, we will contact you to set up a meet and greet with all members of the household (including pets!).

At that meet and greet, you can get to know the dog and ask any questions you may have.

3. Checks & Home Visit

Take some time after the visit to think and discuss with all members of the household. If you decided to proceed with adoption, contact our team and we will move forward with your application.

From there, we proceed with vet and personal references checks and a home visit will be completed by one of our volunteers.

4. Adoption

If all goes well, the last step is to complete the adoption!

An adoption contract will be signed, all medical records will be provided and the applicable adoption fee will be collected via cash, cheque or etransfer.

You then get to welcome home the newest member of your family!
